John F. Kennedy, the 35th president of the United States, was assassinated on November 22, 1963, while on a campaign stop in Dallas, Texas. All information officially released by the United States government provides that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone shooter of President Kennedy (The President’s Commission 21). Nevertheless, more than sixty years later, the assassination of President Kennedy is surrounded by conspiracy theories. One conspiracy theory is that the killing of President Kennedy was an inside job. These conspiracists claim there were powerful forces inside the government who wanted Kennedy dead because of his views on domestic policy and foreign affairs (Douglas 222). Others conspiracists claim there was no way Oswald could have plotted and carried out the shooting alone and thus there must have been co-conspirators (Kelly). Those who dispute Oswald was the lone shooter do so because of missing evidence and conflicting witness reports, including the very doctors who tried to save Kennedy (Stern). Despite the many conspiracies, all credible evidence supports the conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald was indeed the lone shooter on that fateful day in the Lone Star state.
